“Every year there is a growing demand for our students’ marks to be as faithful as possible, and with innovative methodologies assessment criteria tend to be different for each subject area and each unit. Therefore, calculating the average marks of everything is a very arduous and tedious task.”
During the school year 2014/15, many teachers already started using digital platforms individually, mainly to control and keep track of marks. Although there was no uniformity in the choice of the platform, at the beginning of the current school year many teachers showed an interest for Additio App. For this reason we contacted the company, so that they could tell us more about the possibility to work with them as an institution and not individually, especially because the institution has always provided the paper gradebooks and we thought that, if we now complemented them with the digital platform, it would also provide us access to the tool. Indeed, the school did pay for the licence price for all the teachers that have expressed the desire to use Additio App. A total of 15 teachers have joined!
After the experience we had the first year, Additio was the platform that better suited our needs. And, since all our paper gradebooks were also theirs, we decided them again.
“They also made it easy for the school to pay collectively for the fees, adapting to particular cases in which some teachers had already bought the licence individually.”
Most of the teachers use it as a marks follow-up notebook in a daily basis. Some also use it as a class journal. Sometimes it is also used to control mentoring sessions, attendance and penalisations, but not that much
The program also allows you to obtain the average marks by units and by evaluation. Another good point is the web platform, where data are synchronised quickly and which you can access from any computer.
We did have a training session in the institution. One of the teachers, who has more experience and knowledge about the app, gave us an initial training.
“We have combined self-training with collaborative meetings to share information and solve doubts.”
For the next school year we have thought about creating a seminar with a meeting every few weeks to share our experience with tablets and some applications like Additio App.
We have contacted Additio App’s staff many times to ask some questions about licence purchase, to clarify concepts such as data protection and to suggest improvements or adaptations to our needs. The way we were treated was beyond excellent, the answers have always been quick and clear, and we have observed readiness to the requests we have made.
“Additio App has allowed us to record information in a quick way, without waiting times when compared to a computer.
It has also allowed us to make more notes, which are clearer and quicker.”
